Dordogne department is located in the region of Aquitaine in the south side of France. Dordogne is called contain some of the best mystery of the palaces and castles in France. There are about 1001 estimated palaces and castles in this area.
Dordogne Region outlines a series of beautiful medieval villages along the scenic countryside. The climate is mostly warm and, thus, it is very ideal for travel and research.
Historic Sites in the Dordogne
Dordogne is a paradise for those who love history. In addition to its many castles and historic monuments, Vzre Valley hosts many sites of much of prehistoric significance. It is because of the availability of these sites that gave UNSESCO Dordogne status as a world heritage. This is the place that has witnessed important historical events. Notable places to visit in this area Grotte de Combarelles for the kind of prints found there. Similarly Grotte du Grand Roc cave system functions adequately and rock paintings. In addition, in another place Abri du Cap Blanc hosts prehistoric sculptures. Because of these remarkable places, the valley is also known as the cradle of the human race. Recognized as national monuments, Vzre valley about 147 sites listed in UNESCO as world heritage. Founded in 1940, are world famous caves of Lascaux. As expected, more than 17,000 old, these caves, rich in pictures of different animals. There are many efforts going on to keep carvings and paintings in the caves.
Other major attractions are its 1001 Dordogne castles. Some of them are open to the public, while many others are not open to the public. Some locks are very old and appears to the UN appealed to the medieval period. Nevertheless, one can see clear traces of English – French wars of the numerous castles.
